I am currently a high school junior and i plan on going to college after this year by taking the chspe(California High School Proficiency Exam). I'm most likely going to go to a CC nearby and then transfer. I plan on going into a political science major to get into law school. The colleges that I hope to get into in order are: Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UCI, or UCLA. Are there any suggestions on how i may get into any of the schools with these current grades or suggestions about any different schools i should choose from or possibly look into?

Here are some stats
GPA: 3.5 UW 3.75 W
APs: Human Geography(4), and currently taking US history, environmental science, and Calculus AB.
Ecs: Volunteer for a school club for a year
3 year wrestler
Involved in a business blub

Why skip your senior year of high school, especially when there’s room to move your GPA up a bit and prep for ACT/SAT?

Talk to the admissions counselors at the schools you are interested in and get their impressions of your plans. They can probably offer some insight and advice.

Keep in mind political science isn’t the only major that leads to law school. Keep in mind that law school graduates are facing an abysmal job market. If you’re going to CC as a fiscally conservative move, be aware that going to law school after your four year degree may not pay off financially.

Stay in HS as poster above says. I don’t believe your current stats are not high enough for Stanford, Berkeley, or UCLA. Not sure about the other two.

Thanks for the advice. I’m a little new to this college research, so any advice is good advice. Appreciate it! Could you mention other majors that would allow me to get into law school. Also, as of right now, I’m kind of flip flopping between law and medical and I’m still not completely sure of which one yet. So if you could give any tips or advice, that would help me a lot.

There’s really not a major you can’t pursue law school from. Humanities and social sciences are where the bulk of law school applicants come from (English, History, International Studies, Foreign Languages, Economics, Business, Area/Ethnic Studies, etc.). However, that’s probably more an issue of self-selection than the ability of the major to prepare you for law school.

Similarly, it is not necessary to study Biology or Chemistry to go to med school. There are more prerequisites for med school and you’d have to take those, but we’ve had people major in History and go on to med school. One of my student researchers was an Econ-Math major and is applying to med schools now.

The key for either field, regardless of major, is to take any prerequisites that are required for the field and then to prep for the entrance exam (LSAT or MCAT).

If you’re considering med school, then stay in high school one more year and go directly to a 4 year college/univ.

You will benefit by having this next year to get a better SAT or ACT which will help you with admittance and maybe better aid.

It can be much harder to get into med school if you go to a CC first. Med schools don’t like to see pre-reqs taken at CCs. This is really not a good plan.

Also, if you need FA, then transfer students don’t usually get the best aid or merit scholarships.

However, if you transfer to a UC, then you will have to be at the CC for 2 years and your high school grades don’t count at all. Dont’ know what Stanford’s transfer policy is.

Why are you skipping senior year? It seems like it will be something that you will regret later.

ANY major can be used for law school or med school. For med school you just have to make sure you also do the pre-reqs.
