<p>whats with the wave lately with Political Science majors? Let me in on the secret.</p>

<p>wave as in phenom (shouts out to my khmai peeepo!) but as in it seems popular to major in PS at UC’s, maybe im trippin.</p>

<p>I’m just pulling these numbers out of thin air:</p>

<p>15%- Government/Campaigns
25%- Law school
20%- Field unrelated to major
40%- McDonalds</p>

<p>I say this as a proud PoliSci major. Just know what you’re getting into.</p>

<p>If you are not headed to graduate or medical school, be aware that biology has similar or worse job and career aspects at the bachelor’s level as political science, according to that career survey. There are lots of people who felt that they had to major in biology to do pre-med, did not get into medical school, and end up flooding the job market with their bachelor’s degrees in biology.</p>

<p>it does not matter what major you do to get into med school but rather the prerequisite you take for med school.</p>

<p>Poli Sci majors would also probably also make great teachers, whether university level with PhDs, or even just HS, maybe civics, government, or even history. Do they even teach civics anymore? They should… but anyway, I’m gonna do law school with mine, so yeah. Also, you could be a pundit on say, FOX or MSNBC, or write about politics. Maybe work in a think tank, like the Cato institute or RAND Corp. Business, perhaps marketing… lots of options; its one of the most versatile liberal arts degrees.</p>

<p>You can be a half-termed governor from the state slapped on the ass of Canada with political knowledge well into the “pathetic” range and be an analyst on Fox.</p>

<p>Exactly how many “TV analyst” positions are there for PoliSci majors, with nothing else? Most of them are either former or prospective elected officials, or college professors.</p>

<p>Teaching/think tanks are categories I didn’t include. Take off 2-3% from McDonalds for an academia category.</p>

<p>I’m a Poli Sci major with law school aspirations. 43 units under my belt with a 3.61 GPA (Hoping to raise it higher). I’ll be transferring in the Fall of 2012 and want to earn my BA as quickly as possible so I can apply to law school and earn a J.D. I’ve been told that law schools only care about LSAT and GPA, so I have no desire to declare a minor or double major. After I transfer to a UC, I’ll start studying for the LSAT, as a junior. </p>

<p>I’ve heard that law schools discriminate against those of us that attended community college prior to a prestigious undergrad university…</p>
