Not sure if this is the right section, but i have a general question for a political science major. Basically, I just wanna know if it is considered a marketable major? I've heard many stories of political science majors not ending up in law school, and ending up unemployed. I would like to go to law school in the future as of now, but is there a different major I can do so that i have a safety net in case i end up changing my mind about law school? Im taking classes at a community college as of now in order to transfer into University of Illinois as a political science major by the way.

I (and alot of my friends) was a political science major as an undergrad. Here is my advice…don’t do it. Consider instead…

History…pretty much all of the history programs that I have looked at require more writing than poli sci. This is a great skill to develop. I volunteer with a student that is a history/poli sci double major at a Big Ten school where I work. He says the history major is far more rigorous.

Econ…a great analytical focus that prepares you very well for the LSAT. I think that someone did some research and found that econ majors have the highest avg LSAT scores when compared to other social sciences and humanties. Student from above now wishes he had double majored in history and econ.

Yes, econ was exactly what i was thinking. Idk, i feel like polisci is kind of like common sense to some ppl which is why its unmarketable. Im changing my major, thanks for the heads up

Haystack, would you consider PolySci a good major if you didn’t intend to go to law school? I’m leaning towards it but I’m not sure if it’s the best idea…
