I am a high school senior interested in attending UF next year, and am undecided between Political Science and Economics as a major. I might be open to taking two majors, or majoring in one and minoring in the other.

I was wondering if any current students could tell me their experiences with the majors, and whether or not it was easy to keep a good GPA in these majors.

Well if I get accepted to UF I would take Eco, this is due to the fact that UF is really good in economics, but if you like political science (like me) then I guess you could also minor in it.

I feel all poli science people MUST have a background in economics. They go hand and hand, but consider that poli sci isnt math intensive and eco. required calc 2 and more.

I have friends double-majoring in both, so it isn’t too difficult to do. Personally, I hate economics, so I went the polisci route. It’s not a difficult major, but the difficulty of the course really depends entirely on the teacher. An example - the intro level courses are taught by a different instructor each semester. The semester I took INR2001 and CPO2001, the instructors were easy - easy A! My friends, however, took them after I did, and struggled to pull B’s and C’s. It’s a good major for you if you enjoy debate, research, reading (there’s a LOT of it), and writing (a lot of this, too). In your essays, you often have to argue a point - not merely recite information you picked up in class. The teachers are all very qualified and competent, and most are extremely helpful, both in and out of class.

Can’t speak for econ, though. I tried Macro and dropped within the first week!

lol, at least you have an idea of what you want to major in… I’m so lost now that I might need to consider being the first person in history to quintuple major (if that’s even possible).
