Political Science or Intl Relations

Im currently an incoming freshman who was admitted into Davis’ IR major but am considering switching over to polisci with an international relations emphasis. I was just wondering what some of the differences are and what kind of opportunities/careers they lead to. Or if theres even any difference at all.

I know that IR is impacted at Davis so i guess i feel lucky that I was accepted. Also it seems that concentrating solely on IR will give me an advantage maybe in grad school.

On the other hand Ive read that it would be better to take polisci because of the broader perspectives that you really need as undergrad. Ive also heard more about Davis’ polisci department and not so much IR.

Davis has excellent Political Science and IR departments. I recommend that you stay IR for now, and then decide after you have taken some classes. Changing your major from IR to Political Science shouldn’t be a problem, since poli sci isn’t impacted. So you might as well delay your decision, especially since IR and poli sci share many course requirements.
