I know Nu's econ program is top notch, but can the same be said for the political science program?

The dept. is ok.... it's really what you make of it; it's not the best, but it's ok.

batman628, r u deniz or emre

I'm a poli sci major, and I am very satisfied with the classes so far ... the advising on the other hand isn't so great.

I too am a major, and think both the classes and advising are not what they could and should be.

damn...depressed now...and i hate that 'you make the classes what they are'...umm...you make the best out of anything...even if its community college..but at the end of the day...its still community college...gosh...things are not going well for me and i havent even started NU...no pre student program for me, they are being difficult with financial aid, and now my major is going to the crapper!

keenya, i think you're being a tad bit ridiculous, heh... i don't know what classes kk has taken, but i'm telling you that the poli sci classes I've taken my freshman year (Intro to Law in the Political Arena with Prof Iris, Intro to Intl Relations with Prof Hurd and Intro to Comparative Politics with Prof Shih) have been anywhere from good to great .. obviously there are some duds within EVERY department, but if you come to school with the attitude that you're going to hate your major classes, then you probably will.

Fall quarter I am registered to take Latin American Politics with Professor Gibson, who is supposedly one of the best professors at NU. There are tons of good options, cheer up! As for the pre-NSW programs, I didn't do one either and it wasn't the end of the world ... you'll meet people right away, don't worry. Sorry about the financial aid, but keep pushing and you might end up with something better than you expected. good luck!

omg lol I sound so emo. Well im excited about my seminar anyway 'practicing hegemony internationally' :) that was my first choice.
and as far as the pre student programs go..not everyone does it right...maybe its just on here..but people make seem essential.
Thanx :)

Well, Lily, Im a year ahead of you, so I most likely have a few more classes under my belt than you. :) As far as freshman year goes, Intro to Law in the Pol. Arena with Iris was terrible to me, I mean the whole 3 hour time period, all his unnecessary stories and anecdotes my TAs- just bad. I made up for this the next quarter by taking it with Skogan. :) While I agree that every department has its good and bad side, the political science department at times seems hastily thrown together to me. Granted the department is undergoing major renovations now, I still believe it could do a better job with assisting majors and organizing classes.

i took that seminar, keenya, is it with Prof Safford? he's an awesome guy, make sure you get to know him well.

kk, 3 hours at a time with Iris? my classes were an hour and 20 minutes long .. and i loved his stories from the field, personally. i agree that the advising is ****ty, but there are some good classes.

and NO, not everyone does a pre NSW program, in fact I think I only know 2 or 3 people who did and only one of them is actually still close friends with the people he met on the trip. think about it, only a fraction of students actually go on the trips, it's not like the other kids are social rejects b/c they didn't go hiking for a week with strangers (no showers or deoderant either!)

I guess they heard all our complaints... my freshman year Iris' class was from 5 to 8 on Weds.......Its the only class Ive had with an "intermission".

"(no showers or deoderant either!)"

-This is why FUP is infinitely better than Pwild! FUP love! :)
