Hello,

I am considering attending UC Riverside this fall and am curious about the quality of the political science program at the university.

Is political activism popular?

Is their a particular ideology that is rampant (in terms of popularity)?

What is the caliber of the professors?

Is the emphasis on theory, public policy, comparitive politics, international studies, human rights, or american government?

How does the program compare to other UC schools (rankings are nearly impossible to find)?

I’m a current 1st year Political Science major.

Is political activism popular?
Somewhat.I say that because if you’re part of CALPIRG (California Public Interest Research Group), that’s their thing. But you’re not going to have the level of open political activism that is famous at UC Berkeley.

Is their a particular ideology that is rampant (in terms of popularity)?
Liberalism

What is the caliber of the professors?
So far, in my experience, I would say decent. I’ve had 3 so what I say may not be totally accurate or reflective.I haven’t taken any upper division classes.

Is the emphasis on theory, public policy, comparative politics, international studies, human rights, or American government?
If you take CHASS sequence class like i’m currently taking, then they’ll be an emphasis on international studies (i’m taking a sequence of classes Fall-Spring about Human Rights).Other than that, no.

How does the program compare to other UC schools (rankings are nearly impossible to find)?
It’s decent. But Political Science program at UC Berkeley is obviously the best along with UCLA and UCI.
