Politics at Bowdoin

How active are the Young Republicans? How active are the Young Democrats? Overall, is the campus politically aware? Involved in the elections?

The campus is overwhelmingly liberal but there are some signs of conservatism as shown below in articles from the Bowdoin Orient.

[Conservatives call for awareness](http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2009-11-13&section=1&id=6)

Define “overwhelming”

Is it just that the majority of students/faculty are liberal?

Or is their apparent ostracization of conservative ideas, and politicization in the classroom?

Thanks

For any students at Bowdoin, how much are different opinions, even within a single party, respected? Is the political discourse polite? Thanks.

I wouldn’t worry about being beaten down for being a conservative at Bowdoin

I think political discourse is largely respectful, though there are certainly outliers on both sides. The college politicians can sometimes take themselves a little too seriously, if you ask me.
