Thank you all for the thoughtful and respectful replies. We are going to try to get to Syracuse and Rochester, they sound good. now I just have to rework plans a bit! I have to take her to DC after tours for a seminar at Georgetown so we are heading north to south…

I’m a Bucknell alum who visits relatively often and has friends with children there. The area is definitely pretty conservative, much more so than the NYC suburbs where I live. That said, I think the students are much more of a mix. Most are from the Northeast, from more socially-liberal suburbs. Because it is pretty isolated, Greek life kinda dominates the social scene, thought the percentage involved in Greek life is slightly smaller than when I was there in the early 90s. One of my daughter’s best friends goes there. She’s been involved in LGBTQ groups there and has been happy!

CCName1 and AHeltzel are right on the money. Union County’s and Lewisburg’s political preferences have no impact on the Bucknell campus, and the people of Lewisburg are quite friendly toward students. Students seem to reflect the general Gen Z propensity to live and let live, with the community and with each other.

A week ago +/- we were eating in a restaurant fairly close to Bucknell and the patrons next to us were talking about colleges with the oldest gentleman there telling the others that Bucknell “used to be conservative, but not anymore.”

Take it for the hearsay it’s worth. I’m merely repeating his words. Though the whole conversation was quite interesting to listen to, I can’t repeat much of it on this site.

I also grew up near Bucknell! Worked their all through high school in the bookstore (which now is off campus downtown in Lewisburg. I love Bucknell - Hoping one of my other kids will look! Left leaning here btw -

My oldest is at Gettysburg - It’s split pretty squarely down the middle (like the country) But, she’s finding friends on both sides of the isle. I mean, good God - I’m not sure I knew my husbands political thoughts until we were engaged… Did he have any? lol.
