Politics or Religion in College Essay or Common App.

I am heavily involved with politics and was wondering whether it is ok to write down EC's like President of Young Dems or HS Democrats of MD on my Common App ec section?
Also, is it ok in my essay to mention campaigning for XYZ candidates, attending town halls on healthcare reform, etc. Also, I don't condemn or deride republican issues or republicans in my essays ; i just want to convey my passion for politics and the democratic ideals that i support.

The application readers are not supposed to be biased against you based on your religion or party affiliation, correct? I read an harvard essay(accepted) on religion[how a girl used to believe in god but her father died and then she became atheist]. however, i have yet to read one on politics.

Politics is not a problem, especially if you’re a liberal.
Religion should not be mentioned, if you’re an atheist/agnostic. This is still a very religious country.

It’s true.

Don’t write anything offensive. Religion feels like a touchy subject in this regard, though in the Harvard book of successful essays there was one on a person’s religious development.

Just because a person who wrote an essay about religion got admitted doesn’t mean that there won’t be a subconscious bias against the applicant. I say avoid religion.

^ Seconded.
