<p>I am close to my parents, for various definitions of the phrase “close to.” Metaphorically speaking, we are not in sufficient proximity to engage in Van der Waals interactions. But we are close enough that if I had one Coulomb of positive charge on my clothes, and they had one Coulomb of negative charge on their clothes, we would experience a significant attractive force.</p>

<p>We are close in the sense that they would do anything for me and vice versa. We also have a very strong bond. However, we do not do “normal” things like huge or tell one another that we love them. We also do not tell each other what they can and cannot do- we trust that each other will make good choices. Therefore, there is generally very little tension in my house. Except for when my father and I “debate” politics.</p>
