<p>This question is mostly about your expectations for the admissions environment at very selective schools - will the numbers go up, down, or sideways?</p>
<p>I think it might help this poll if ppl based it on thier high school...that way it is somewhat more accurate</p>

<p>definitely...there's a palpable difference between '10 and '11...'11 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more competitive. The funny thing is, though, that in my school, the class of '12 is less competitive than us seniors...weird.</p>
<p>In my High School, my class is the most smartest and academically strongest compared to the past couple graduating classes and the upcoming classes. I know a lot more people than usualy are going to be going to top schools this year from my grade.</p>
<p>I'm a senior and teachers have stated how strong our class is compared to others. We even lost some of our best to prep schools, where they dominate there as well.</p>

<p>if y9ou look at class size over the years the number of studnets in eahc class has been going up exponentially. seniors r smaller htan juniors r smaller than sophomores r smaller than freshman. if all else stayed the same (evry1 has same number of apps and such) then just by sheer virtue that there r more kids the top colleges will get more applications</p>

Closely followed by Class of 2007, which is competitive, but just not as big (Thus less smarter students)</p>

<p>At my school, the senior class is the smallest class, then the juniors, then the sophomores, then the freshmen. I think the only reason we have enough space for them is because the freshmen are tiny. I saw one the other day who was shorter than the trashcans in the caf.</p>

<p>Im sorry, but I have a hard time believing that across the country each class is getting smarter except becasue of the Flynn effect (whatever causes that!) and other socio-economic causes. Furthermore, since the popular is getting bigger and schools aren't, it makes perfect sense that more people are applying. Also colleges are doing more to get record number of applications sent--I don't have a chance at most schools Im applying to (for example, MIT) but I'll apply anyway because for some reason I think it matters. There are thousands of people like me, but does that really make it harder to get in for people who have a chance? Not really, because a lot of bad applicants aren't going to be admitted unless they're an affirmative action case (development, legacy, minority, athelete).</p>
<p>So, what are we really talking about in this thread? We're worried because it'll be harder to get accepted. But thats not really true, for one. And two: it doesn't matter. Let's collectively worry about something like, I don't know, the fact that 20,000 children died today because they were too poor to survive. It's a start!</p>

<p>I dunno... our class is kinda looking stupid compared to last year's. But I guess that differs by school..? This year's class dominates sports and last year's dominated acadamics (in my school).</p>
<p>I wouldn't assume much change in the quality of the students, either better or worse - the increase in selectivity over the last decade has been driven by the increase in the number of applicants at the top schools.</p>

<p>2009 - very bad, no Ivy admits out of 60
2010 - extremely crazy in academics, sports, AND music. Basically, the class that had it all. 8+ Ivy admits out of 65.
2011 - we are again a boring class, not significantly strong academics nor outstanding participation in sports or music. We have the highest overall GPA though.
2012 - wayyy crazy class. They are the biggest class in my school's history, and basically the whole grade is teeming with people with different abilities/interests. I'm really interested to see where those people will end up at.</p>
<p>Anyways, back on topic:
Most people say 2011 will be more competitive than 2010, but 2012 will be the most competitive class because its at the height of the second baby boom.</p>
