POLL: Class of 2011 - Most Selective Ever?

I'm part of the class of 2012 and I think that it's going to be more competitive for me than for 2011 in my school at least. There are so many people with ridiculous resumes that I can't imagine them not going to an Ivy or another school of similar rank. I go to a public school in Long Island and from what I've seen at other surrounding schools, it seems like everyone is motivated to get into an Ivy. The baby boom doesn't help anyone out either.

hey what school are you from? im from SWR

"going Ivy will increasingly be harder to get into as years come. when we're 100, the admissions rate will be less than 1% if the US is still around in its present form"

no it won't; things will level off eventually, as the # of HS graduates is expected to start declining in the next couple decades. besides, it goes in cycles--admissions was much more competitive in parts of the 80s than the early 90s, but things turned around by the mid 90s-now.

but any speculation in this thread is pointless -- your individual experience doesn't really mean anything as far as the ENTIRE COUNTRY goes.

My graduating class (class of 2007) of 750 has 7 National Merit Semi-Finalist and 26 National Merit Commended Scholars, more than they ever had in the schools history. We have a very strong highly qualified kids who will be applying to same schools this year. We all have very close GPA and SAT scores !!!

i heard that last years class is a reallly big class therefore each schools acceptance rate basically raised a bit because of the pool size

Demographics show that class of 2007 is bigger than the class of 2006 was. Add the continuing social frenzy about colleges, and it looks like it will only get worse. At any one individual school it is hard to say, but nationally apps will go up.

At my school, my class is RIDICULOUSLY competitive compared to last year's and the year after our's. An 86 average last year was enough to land you in the top 50(easily top 15%). This year, an 86 isn't even in the top 50%

I think the competition will be pretty fierce. Good luck, guys.
