overrated: The George Washington University

underrated: University of Florida

Underrated: Univ of Wis.

Overrated: Practically no school that is talked about on this board. Lots of great schools.

Overrated: The entire Ivy League

or if not overrated, then over applied to.

Underrated: Univ of Rochester

i have to agree w/ son of liberty, i dunno how you can say that ivie's are overrated...i geuss in some sense they are because yeah, it always seems as though people place them at the top of every ranking system, and are always asking about their chances to get in, etc...in general, the ivie's get excessive hype...but potentially for good reason -

it's not like these schools are falling in the rankings, or more importantly, in the eyes of employers, recruiters, or grad schools...and to me, at least, those are the opinions that matter the most to me

The effect of attending an ivy on your life is VERY overrated.

Underrated: UIUC

no one believes that going to an ivy means instant fame, glory, and dollar bills...they just know that they'll get a strong education, and there are significant advantages, also beware that technically, whoever wants to idolize the ivies is entitled to their own opinion (and fyi, im not even considering most of them as potential schools)

Overrated: All of the UC's, especially UCLA and UCB

Overrated: HYPS, UCLA

Underrated: Caltech, Georgetown

over - BC
under - WashU in St. Louis (which I think I might actually stray from my plan of CA, NY, or MA to apply to it!)

I completely agree takeme2cali...I think BC is very overrated and WUStL deserves some more credit.

It depends where you're from, too. In MA, BC may be overrated. It's an extremely popular school around here and is definitely not underrated. In other parts of the country, though, a lot of kids seem to have very little knowledge of BC at all, thinking that BU is much better.

Overrated: Cornell, Penn, GWU, NYU, Tufts, JHU
Underrated: public schools besides UCs, southern schools in general: Vandy, Emory, Rice in particular

overrated: Boston college, duke, georgetown, NYU, all the big huge public ivies
underrated: pomona, rice, most LACs, william&mary

Overrated: Princeton and the other six community colleges Georgetown, Tufts, BC

Underrated: Hopkins, U Rochester, RPI

P.S. Cornell is awesome!

I also think Pomona, William and Mary, and RPI are underrated. William and Mary is seen as the second choice VA public school, but I would go there over UVA in a heartbeat. Everyone talks about AWS, but Pomona is just as good in a much nicer climate.

Eh, Duke isn't overrated, jenn. I'm biased, but it has a very strong focus on undergraduates. UNC, one of the "public Ivies," is also at least as good as William & Mary.

raindrop1019 how dare you say JHU is overrated
you piece of!!@#$!
