About suicide rates:
http://www-tech.mit.edu/V120/N6/comp6.6n.html

"MITs suicide rate peaked in the 1980s at nearly 19 per 100,000 student years. Throughout the 1990s the rates have been nearly half that of the previous decade at 10 per 100,000 student years."

MIT rate peaked in the 1980's, but is now below the national average. With such small samples, the trends are not really meaningful.

does anyone else think that penn state is overrated?

i was accepted there, just wondering though

the ivies really are overrated... in terms of educational quality and student quality of life polls, they always fall short of the top LACs where you get loads of attention from actual professors.

and people who say the ivies can't be overrated because they're always at the top of the rankings need to first, stop basing everything off the rankings, and second, realize the rankings are based entirely off selectivity and the ivies artificially raise their selectivity by rejecting a whole bunch of really well-credentialed kids. then word spreads that some 1600 freak didn't get into harvard, and suddenly harvard's mystique just grows exponentially. they're selective because they want to be, not because they're just better.

All Ivies except Cornell are overrated. There are better schools like Duke and Stanford that trounce them.

hahaha this thread is ridiculous

you can't ask a bunch of high school/college kids what schools are over or underrated. OBVIOUSLY, people are bias.

OBVIOUSLY, the school you're going to is underrated. And OBVIOUSLY, the schools you got rejected from are overrated.

In all honesty, you have no idea what you're talking about.

we all understand that this is bias. we all understand that this is people's personal opinions on which colleges are overrated/underrated. in fact, this entire website is people's personal opinions.

hey all4thesport i dident apply to any any ives and i still think there all overrated... i dont think my life will end not going to one in fact i think i will have about 150,000 dollars more to it for not going

no, school is overrated/underrated. it just depends on how you perfrom in the school, you can go to harvard and still make less money than a person who just went to a decent school.

Over: Yale, UCB, Emory
Under: Cornell, Oberlin, UCLA (only applies to certain areas)

I have no clue about my status at Cornell, nor did I apply to Stanford or Duke. So don't say I am biased :)

Overrated -- Michigan
Underrated -- Southern Schools (W&L, Vandy, Davidson, etc)

Underrated: Pomona and H. Mudd
