You can always invest in a VCR to record shows if you're up for it.

VCR? What is that? I can't remember the last time I even saw one.

it really doesn't matter if it is an hdtv or not for t.v. purposes because most colleges have cable feeds that are really crappy standard definition...and have been split about 10 times

well i'd be bringing my playstation 3 as well.

Yeah, I know. That's why I love my DVR; I can record a whole season of a show and it's sweet.

Do you want half the hall to hang out in your room just for your TV and the other half to think you're a feminine hygiene product for bringing a 37 inch HD tv to college?

sorry i bought my hdtv with my own money for less than half of its actual retail value. honestly i dont care what they think, but mostly nobody cared.

No. Unnecessary and you'll be very sad if it gets stolen/broken.

How else are you going to watch Big Brother?

NOOOO
need to justify.

i don't think you guys understand. i cannot live without my football. i need CBS and Fox channels at the very least and I need ESPN for Sunday Night and Monday Night and I need the NFL N for Thursday Night and I need Madden

and i don't think you understand.
you're going to college, not summer camp.

Life is full of sacrifices. Your football may be one of them.

No. Other than studying, you'll probably be spending most of your time hanging out with friends.

yes; if you're like my boyfriend and his roommate, you'll be the coolest person on the hall & everyone will want to watch basketball games & LOST in your room

you could bring a 14-inch, 15-year-old TV with a built-in VCR like i do, which serves the same purpose, but you have to squint to read the scores..

I believe my school has ESPN, and then CBS and FOX for sure. You'll be fine.

No. TVs are a waste. Seriously.

NO.

Pray your roomie is. Then, you can save some $!

I don't see why all these people are saying no. I didn't have a TV but bought a little contraption that allowed me to put cable on my computer through my USB port. Best $100 I spent at school that didn't go towards books. I like getting up in the morning and having ESPN on in the background while I get dressed. It's also nice to be able to watch what you want when you want.

Obviously, if your school doesn't have cable a TV is basically a waste. However, if you enjoy watching TV, playing video games, etc. it is worth having one in your room. While your common room might have a TV, you're at the will of what others want to watch. Let's pretend that your favorite show comes on during Lost. You will never see it at school in a common room. That also assumes your common room will even have a TV. If you come to school with a big TV your room will be the place to be to watch big shows and big sporting events. Who says you can't hang out with friends if you have a TV. It's not like the OP is going to be sitting in his room watching TV alone on a Saturday night, so I don't get why people are equating having a TV with not spending time with others. His friends will come to his room to watch TV and movies. No one likes crowding around a computer to watch a DVD if someone else has a 32'' TV.

How big of a TV you want to get is dependant on how much space you have and how much money you are willing to spend.

It's settled. 27 or 32 inch hdtv is what i'll get. the size depends on dorm size...hopefully by Black Friday I know where I want to go
