no, cuz it could break easily in the dorm atmosphere. you have to move out within the year, and college kids are notoriously rowdy.

I mean, I do love TV though. when I have a show I like I LOVE it. so I am definitely bringing a TV and definitely getting cable. totally necessary.

You might want to look on Craigslist when you get to college. You should be able to get a 27" CRT for about $50, or possibly even cheaper.

I brought my 27" CRT from home back when I was in undergrad, and it made my room the central hangout for the guys in my hall. And, unlike the people on CC think, all of us kept GPAs over 3.5 by knowing when we could, and couldn't, watch TV.

If it turns out you don't have room for a TV, then a USB/PCI tuner card for your computer is fantastic. I'm actually watching Jeopardy right now as I'm posting on CC in a little window. Also, if you're in a major metropolitan area, you can get a ton of channels with a set of rabbit ears and one of the new digital converter boxes. I get around 15-20 channels in English/non-religious here in LA, which is about how many worthwhile channels I had when I was buying basic cable from Charter.

If you have a good TV, then people will want to hang out in your dorm. Whether that is a good or bad thing depends. I could fall asleep with my roomie and several others watching Weeds on DVD with the volume turned way up, but I go to sleep easily. I'm pretty sure, however, that others on my floor got more gametime in on the games I bought for my Xbox that plays on my 19" HDTV.

But I couldn't imagine playing Xbox on any other TV.

Cathode Ray Tube. The TV's before the slim LCD designs.

I feel so old now. ;_;

Next thing I know you guys will tell me you never had a record player. Or a cassette tape player. :(
