For me its:
the name
the racist and sexist mind set it seems to have
the uniform
being unable to even associate with the opposite sex

but the biggest thing I hate is the fact that the university calls itself liberal.

I personally would like to show up at that school with all hollister and american eagle clothes on in a mustang and just drive around the school blasting New Age music.

I find it funny they restrict all these things yet they allow students to bring guns. I wonder what the suicide rate is there. Its prolly higher than MIT.

What I hate most are its' detractors who air laundry lists about it on public message boards. That really burns my a$$ about the school ;).

damn I JUST discovered this school the other day... I was looking at Furman's wikipedia page and then checked out other schools in Greenville, SC and came across BJU. I was shocked after reading the rules...

tomslasky have you read their rules? Also lighten up I dont have a problem with people who go there I just find the views of the school entertaining

IMO, most of the people that go to BJU are probably Christians and don't find anything wrong with most of the rules...

I am Christian and I have a huge problem with their rules. I have attend Catholic School my entire life. None of our views are that extreme.

How long do you think you would last in Bob Jones University before you did something that got you kicked out?

While I don't want to bash a school so close to me (my hs is always debating the Bob Jones Academy hs), I'm just a little thrown off by the Creation Science major.

Bob Jones?

There's a dress code. For kids in their mid-20s.

That is all.

the fact that it gives Christians such a bad name. I'm a Christian and I have a HUGE problem with the rules. I think I would last a week there (on the account of trying to get kicked out).

^I agree. I'm attending a public school for financial reasons, but I would be more than okay with following the rules the average Christian college sets down. Going to chapel a few times a week, taking Bible classes, not drinking or doing drugs, doing community service? Awesome, sign me up. However, I wouldn't last a day at BJU, Pensacola, or other "extreme" Christian colleges that have been discussed here recently. I just can't live the way they would want me to, and I honestly don't think I have to in order to be a good Christian or a good person.

I don't have a problem with BJU's policies in and of themselves- they can set whatever rules they like, as long as kids are choosing to attend instead of being forced to by parents. However, it bugs me that schools such as this get all the publicity and religious schools where kids are still living (mostly) the way kids at secular institutions do get overlooked. I think it reinforces the negative image of Christians a lot of people have: intolerant of others' views, "brainwashed" into believing nonsensical things, and so on. Most of us aren't like that. I'm sure there are kids at these schools that aren't like that. I just wish BJU's rules weren't seen as being representative of how Christian colleges are, or how Christian faith is, because it doesn't even come close to representing all of us.

Nice post, salamander. It's not a pleasant feeling to have so many people look down on your beliefs because of the few extremists. As a prospective science major, I'm sure I'll start dealing even more with that, unfortunately. It is a bit ironic when people are intolerant of Christianity (or even religions as a whole) on the grounds that religions are intolerant. But that's for another thread :).

I wouldn't enjoy BJU at all. I'm fine with typical Christian rules, but many of my closer friends are girls. I really would hate to mainly just talk to men all the time.
