Post how you went about your math sequence, as well as how many years ahead/behind you were compared to the normal sequence.

Me:
6th grade: elementary school math, though I was in highest sequence
7th grade: Pre-Algebra/1 year ahead
8th grade: Integrated I (worse than Algebra I, really)/1 year ahead
9th grade: Advanced Alg/Trig/2 years ahead
10th grade: AP Calculus AB/self-study BC/3 years ahead

next 2 years: bunch of random assorted stuff that isn't really coherent. Blech, I wish I did EPGY. Years ahead: irrelevant because everyone who continues on was already ahead anyways (and you realize how it doesn't really matter. But I'll ask this anyways). :p

Then I got screwed over afterwards so now I'm just self-studying crap. :p

I took infinite random matrix theory in 7th grade, and Linear Partial Differential equations the year before that. Manifold Geometry in 8th, along with Algebraic topology. Right now I'm doing electron movement calculations, senior year.

Seriously, do we really need another thread to boast how far ahead we are?

Ray, you make me so depressed. How did you get so far? Homeschooled?

Pre-Calc: I took it over the summer. I also took Integrated II over summer.

That being said though, I know people who took calculus by age 14, and they aren't particularly intelligent. Certainly though, most people are taking courses far below their ability levels. As much as I detest public schooling, it seems that it at least makes me less intimidated in that people far better than I am are forced to take calculus in 10th-12th grades.

Ideally, of course, I'd stop comparing myself with others. =P

And as for being far ahead - it's not necessarily boasting. This thread could show how behind (most of us) are, with respect to how much potential many of us have.

I hate it when a person knows that they can achieve something and can take on a certain class and yet their school doesn't allow them to take it.

I hate it when a person is forced to take a year-long class and move at a steady pace when that same person could just move at his own pace to test out of specific units in that same course (provided that he can finish the course within a specific period of time).

==

Correction:

This thread could show how behind (most of us) are, with respect to how much potential many of us have. =>

In fact, this thread could be construed as a "look at how my school is forcing me to perform below my natural ability by forcing me to take courses that are structured over the period of months". Taking calculus in 10th grade is not impressive at all. I'd only be impressed if a person learned it in 8th grade. But at least there are some points to the thread - it can serve as a motivation to those who are behind, who are seeking ways to further their own education.

Such as Stanford EPGY.

==

Edit: I know I seem a bit advocate-y, but my arguments against public education were what finally impelled me to skip my courses (it took a lot of effort to develop that sort of courage) and to take total accountability for my own learning after 2007 (rather than to attribute it to the institution)

6th: 1 year ahead, skipped halfway through and became 2 years ahead
7th: Algebra I, +2 years
8th: Geometry, +2 years
9th: Algebra II, +2 years
10th: Calc BC, (took precalc in 9th through JHU) +3 years
11th: MVC/LA/DE sequence, +3 - 4 years,

6th: Algebra
7th: Algebra (the algebra 2 teacher left so they pushed it up a year)
8th: Algebra (the geometry teacher left so they pushed it up a year)
9th: Algebra/Geometry/Statistics 2
10th: Algebra/Geometry/Statistics 3
11th: Calc AB
12th: Calc BC

I am now very depressed.
8th grade: Alg. 1
9th grade : Geo
10th grade: Alg 2
11th grade : PreCal.
I am currently in 10th grade. Do you think I should self-study the PreCal?

AP > Honors > Regular > Extended > Extra Extended

People in Math EE don't even complete Geometry after 4 years of high school. The worst part is I am respectful of all, especially those in all remedial classes, but they are usually so unintelligent (socially speaking as well) that they act like idiots unless they're dealing with someone of their level. It's unqualified resentment for everyone else I guess, but then again my school is...er, unique (it's located in a hamlet so everyone knows each other).

6th: Pre-integrated
7th: Integrated II
8th: Integrated III
9th: Calculus
10th: More calculus + number theory with focus on Pell's equation + linear algebra with focus on numerics
11th: Group theory + Advanced multivariable calculus + graduate complex analysis + graduate ordinary differential equations + graduate axiomatic set theory + graduate partial differential equations + graduate dynamical systems
