polo and jeans

what do girls think of the "polo and jeans" fashion style? like? dislike? too preppy?

it's not a bad style. imho too preppy is when everything you own has a&f or american Eagle emblazoned across it and you're wearing like 2 of those polos all the time with some of those plaid shorts. that's just me tho. my boyf wears khaki pants or shorts all the time with either a tee, collared shirt pretty much all the time. he's not very good at making things match (one time he wore urban camo cargo shorts with a red striped shirt!) so wearing khakis and a collared shirt makes him pretty much dressed up enough for pretty much any restaurant or w/e while still being casual.
personally i like it when guys look clean cut without looking too preppy and obsessed with their looks, labels, etc. your jeans an a polo will accomplish this.

AE and A&F are not really preppy. But I think it's funny when people think they're the pinnacle of preppiness.

agreed nodnard...

now, if everything you wear is Ralph Lauren or Lacoste (for a boy) or J.Crew and Lily Pullitzer (for a girl), then yeah, you're too preppy.

AE and A&F aren't really preppy...

as to the original question, polos and jeans are fine at my school. i see most guys wearing that style all the time.

I personally don't like that look. Its so common and boring in my opinion.

there's nothing wrong with wearing A&F, AE, hollister etc. If thats your style, you should wear it. I always wonder, is A l X considered as 'preppy'?

i like a guy who can wear a polo and jeans. just no popped collars please. tshirts and khakis cargo shorts/pants are nice. i kinda like those plaid ones too with a tshirt. im not into the REAL preppy stuff like lacoste but i like A&F and hollister. more relaxed and beachy. i dont really think ax is considered preppy, at least i dont think it is. but it doesnt really matter.. as long as you look good in what youre wearing its fine.

i know a&f and american eagle, hollister are not "preppy" in the "prep school", upper class, conservative in dressing sense. however i personally don't like those brands and how everyone at school seems to be wearing the same thing. however, that's just my opinion.

a&f AE hollister = all high school kid brands
polo and ralph lauren are more mature brands, you'll see older people wearing this but hardly ever wearing stuff like abercrombie

Absolutely not

Polo is worn so much at my school I'm not even sure if it's considered preppy anymore.

yeah, pretty much. though, i do sometimes wear polo and jeans...it's usually of some "alternative" brand (and thus fairly nice and unique prints) like Volcom, Paul Frank, Hurley, etc. and at that most of my polos are in either dark or bold colors like orange and white striped, black and red microstriped, etc. as opposed to solid pastels. i really don't like plain, muted colors. coupled with dark slim cut denim, it doesn't really look preppy or boring IMO.

I don't even own a polo shirt

if you don't want to be labeled as 'preppy,' just wear A l X. Its costly but its WAY better than A&F, Hollister and definitely better than AE...just my opinion.

i dont think ax is better than aaf in quality-wise.ax is just not good for the money. i would rather put some more money and buy diesel or 7.those who love diesel but think it is a bit pricey???go to yoox.com

worst thing about ax : too many sales..so it does not attract me to buy with full price..

Preppy clothing should NEVER be "hot" or "sexy", therefore, A&F is way too sexual to be properly considered preppy. Barbara Bush (the old one) is the epitome of female prepdom.

ax t-shirts have better quality than A&F ones. And Hollister is just plain cheap.

No. A|X is for fat midget guidos; definitely not a preppy bunch. Though they do make some decent jeans for the price.

All of these stores have the same quality...do you think any more handwork or careful fabric selection went into an A|X tee than a Hollister one? They're all "Made in China,"
"Made in Turkey," "Made in Portugal," etc...

On another note, I second the poster who said that yoox.com is a good site -- the only problem with it is that the models have awful poses that make a lot of stuff look worse than they actually are.

get burberry polos and seven or true religion jeans.

If you want preppy, go Brooks Brothers, Polo Ralph Lauren, Patagonia, etc. A&F/Holliser/A&E, despite their marketing, is NOT preppy.

I'm personally for the polo/shorts/treads combination (Southern California). A great smart yet casual look, IMO.
