Polo/Lacoste/J Crew/Banana Republic... Preppy and Classy clothing lines unite..

Well, I wish I could shop online from the above website, but being a college student with no money doesn't really allow me to. J crew has a ton of great clothes, but they are way to expensive.

Just wondering, other than the brands above, what are some clothing lines that I can look into to dress chic, preppy and classy?

Does urban outfitter have lots of classy clothes?

p.s. I don't like american eagle or abercrombie.

thanks.

If you are in the South, Southern Tide is very up-and-coming.

american apparel wholesale ftw

$7 shirts that feel amazing, every color of the rainbow. retail in shops for $18. google it.

The polos from Polo are hardly different than polos from A&F. Such a tool.

JCrew has outlets all over the country; definitely cheaper…

Brand is everything in some places, particularly in the Greek community. That’s just the way it is.

banana republic sales rack

Brooks Brothers is the og of preppy and classy

Sorry but I’m going to have to disagree. The quality of Polo shirts are a lot better than A&F… A&F just isn’t very comfortable. Get Polo at the outlets and they are the same price anyways.

Southern Tide is a great suggestion (best polo around, IMO) but the OP was searching for something cheap, which ST is not. I suggest Land’s End and LL Bean for cheaper alternatives. Also Target brand and such.

Jcrew is too trendy now, and the quality is not worth the $$, IMO.

Stick with the classics, Brooks and RL. Banana Republic is pretty good.

I’ve bought BB, RL, and some other polos, but my Lacostes seem to have the best quality. They tend to last longer, color doesn’t fade, stitching doesn’t come apart after a few washes, etc.

The problem with some cheaper polos is they don’t last, and you end up spending about the same price (as a lacoste or other higher end brands) replacing them.

I don’t understand how college students wear J crew. I went to the store a few weeks ago, and the cloths looked like something my grandmother would wear, not a young college student

A&F polos aren’t comfortable. They have this odd super-constructed feeling that is really stiff on the shoulders and back. Not relaxed at all.

Do you not know of EBAY  Much of what you find at JCrew and Banana Republic (lol funny how your Old Navy card works there?!), can be found on ebay for way less than retail. Sometimes you can find this season’s clothes on ebay but come on now, JCrew’s clothing doesn’t change too much season to season.

Don’t take fashion advice from me though I’ve been slacking all month living in hoodies and track pants LOL! Sure, I look well, sloppy, but so does 80% of the rest of the college population on my campus during an average day. But, I do bother to put on decent clothing for every other occasion! :-)

I don’t know, you’d look much more classy imo if you stick to:
J Crew, Ralph Lauren, Anne Taylor, Express, Brooks Bros., etc…
I think tailored business casual just looks great. It’s a professional appearance, and it stands out, w/o appearing overdone. You might not fit in with 20 yr olds, but you’ll look classy.

But, I do have an affliction for buying from Urban Outfitter  But then, I’m also a tad eccentric, I love Lucky Brand, Guess, and well American Eagle (you don’t like it, but I can’t resist this store).

Ok so I have never actually seen JCrew’s clothes so I decided to go look on their website and literally started laughing out loud. Most of the stuff looks exactly the same as what you would find at Kohl’s, New York & Co, Rave, Forever 21 or JC Penney’s lmao. Plus there is a sequin top on there fore $485 or something outrageous like that looks almost EXACTLY like something I saw at Forever 21 a short time back for $20. Seriously what a waste of money.

AMEN. Thats what I thought, it at least looked like someone in their 30’s would wear. I wanna wear what I can wear now and get away with hahahaha.

Same with banana republic although apparently they fixed the designs for the fall…(13 percent drop in sales due to bad designs/prices) it wasn’t just me who thought the clothes looked like it was for older generation, my mom loved it. That says something, no?

In regards to the Old Navy Card working at Banana Republic, it’s because they’re part of the same parent company. Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic are all owned by the same parent parent company, so that’s why you can use your cards.

the difference is that the J Crew top will last you for years and continue to look and feel good, whereas the Forever 21 will fall apart after you wash it twice. plus, most forever 21 items tend to look and smell cheap. It’s a good store for
when you want to buy a trendy looking top and just wear it a few times, and it’s marketed mostly to teens who don’t have much money, whereas J Crew is marketed toward older people, and has more classic looks…personally i agree that the clothes look more like what people in their 30’s would wear, so I don’t shop there a lot, but it’s nice for some basic clothes that will last longer. Prices at the outlet stores are a lot cheaper than the website!

the Gap and Banana Republic also have really plain looking clothes, it’s mostly khaki’s and cardigans…sure, i buy clothes there sometimes, but i can’t imagine anyone our age constantly wearing stuff like that.

I’ve never had something from there fall apart. And I have a shirt I wear from there every other week and therefore it gets washed every other week. I have had it for two years and it still looks brand new.

And I still have clothes from 7th and 8th grade that fit me and are in really good condition from the likes of Kohl’s and JC Penney’s.

If you wanna dress truly classy, stick with the polo and brooks brothers. Vinyard vines is ok, too.
