polsci major...UCB

how difficult is the admissions to this major?

i know berkeley doesn't go by major, but what you put down plays a major role in your chances.

i have all the pre-reqs for polisci at berkeley done with a 4.0 GPA.

i'd taken an unrelated summer session course at berkeley and recieved an A+ this summer.

overall my gpa is 3.7

and i dont have any really impressive extracurriculars beyond performing drums..

do i have a good chance for polisci?

The average GPA to the social science department is a 3.8 uc transferable gpa. Before I get flamed for saying this, I got this info from my UC Berkeley adviser from the TAP program. I would say you have a good shot if you have a good personal statement. Getting all A's in your preq's is very helpful.

thanks for quick reply thedude.

no prob just logged on a second ago.

I was actually wondering the same thing; does anyone know the acceptance rate? I know the social sciences acceptance rate is 22%, but is that an average of all departments comprising "social sciences"? And, PoliSci seems to be a popular major at UCB, is it impacted?

avg. GPA for social science is 3.8? where did you get that info. from? lol

I don't think the average major for transfer to Cal poli sci is 3.8. Maybe 3.7 or so, but 3.8 seems a bit high.

I'd say that the OP is a match to Cal.

lol just the thought is funny cause as a high school student i was barely a match for SFSU LOL

I got the 3.8 GPA information from the Berkeley adviser from the TAP program. They give the TAP students quite a bit of information regarding the school. But who knows maybe she told me that so I would work harder.

So 3.7-8~ is the 50th percentile, that can a bit misleading --would be interesting to know the 90th percentile, etc, or the "shoe-in" mark, but there are probably too many inconsistencies regarding the weight of a 4.0 to even bring that up.
