Wasn't sure where to put this thread but here goes. I'm a rising senior trying to decide which one I like better (or whether to just go for both). I'm looking at doing Mechanical, Civil/Environmental, or Engineering Physics undergrad. Really I'm just a little confused about which to choose and I just want to know more about both programs beyond the websites/brochures. Some personal stories would be great.
Can anyone who's been through either please weigh in?

You might want to post this on the Harvey Mudd forum as well and see what kind of reaction you get. The big advantage of Mudd, is that if you are sure about engineering, you are done in 4 years.

That 3+2 program will cost you over $70K more for that fifth year in 2016.

Neither are easy admits - apply to both, visit both. If you can’t visit - go to college fairs and talk to the reps. Then, if you get into both, you’ll be able to decide.

I was a Computer Science Major at Pomona, so I’ve taken a lot of classes at both Pomona and Harvey Mudd.

They are VERY different schools.

I would make sure you visit, possibly doing an overnight at both schools, to get a feel for the students. I love my Mudd friends, and my Mudd profs, but I would have hated being a student there. I also know many Mudders who would not have like being students at Pomona one bit.

You have strong acedemic goals, and that’s great, but college is also a very important time socially. Each of the Claremont Colleges have very unique communities, and it is rare for a student to be a good fit for all of them. Pomona and Mudd are both fantastic schools and are filled with great people, but their communities might make it dead clear to you where you want to go.
