Hi! I really want to get into Pomona College and I was wondering what those who have gotten in/ understand their admissions process think about my chances.
Unweighted GPA 3.6
Weighted GPA 3.93
Rank 119/850
SAT 1460
School Profile: ranked silver by U.S. News, you have to apply to get in, we send 2-3 kids to Ivy schools every year.
Rigor of curriculum: Geometry/Algebra 2/Calculus Honors, Biology/Chemistry/Physics Honors, English 3 Honors,
AP US History Junior and Senior year (2 year course), AP Literature, AP Calculus BC (Other than required classes, all of my classes except for English I and II were either honors or AP)
Activities: Mock Trial (15+ hours/week), Gay-Straight Alliance, Student Ambassador, NJROTC, World Language Honor Society, CTY civic leadership institute. applying to NHS but I won’t have a decision until December.
Leadership: I am the lead attorney for my Mock Trial team and I am the head of the communications department in ROTC
Volunteering: so far I have ~90 hours from Junior year/Summer (I didn’t keep track before then) and I plan on doing much more this year
I have a pretty diverse/strong background which I think will help a lot with my college essays and I have complete faith in my recommendation letters.
I just wanted to make a comment on my GPA: my academic performance has increased quite a lot since freshman year, and I have received a weighted 4.0 or above for sophomore and junior year (which is why it averages to a 3.93). My rank also went from 187 to 119 over those two years in a graduating class that is quite competitive (a 4.1 in my class is BARELY enough to make it to top 10%) The improvement in Academic performance will appear in my transcript
Overall I think my weaknesses are GPA and activities, but I was wondering if I would be able to make up for them.
