I don’t think everyone hears the same time for waitlist decisions. Assuming Pomona needs to use the waitlist, they will begin making offers of admissions one-by-one. Each person will have roughly a week to respond. They will continue to use the waitlist until the class is full, and then all remaining applicants will be notified that the class is full.
I’M LOSING HOPE.
My son hasn’t heard anything either…
As I mentioned earlier, we got a call two weeks ago to see if we were still interested and were told that they would send the papers the following week, but so far nothing!!! Not sure what’s going on.
Check your emails. I just got rejected.
"Thank you for your patience with us these last few weeks. I am writing with an update, but regrettably, also with news that we will not be able to include you in our entering class. We had been hopeful to invite more students like you to join us at Pomona, but it is clear that very few, if any, additional spaces will develop during the summer. In order to provide closure to this process, we are releasing the bulk of the remaining students from our wait list now.
We do wish you the best for your educational experience and have appreciated your patience and interest in Pomona College."
Sorry you didn’t get off the waitlist @lyannastark. Did you accept and deposit at CMC? My D agonized between CMC and Pomona for her ED1 choice and ultimately went with Pomona. But she feels she could’ve been equally happy at CMC. Her dad went to CMC. Before you know it you’ll be embracing the friendly rivalry and enjoying the consortium. Love the school that loves you back.
This is just total and utter BS! They called us right after the May 1 commit deadline to enquire if we were still interested and how excited they were to offer us a spot to be a part of Pomona 2020. They made a couple of more calls to check again about our interest and they have been stringing us along since then, And then, boom! Got the same mail as @lyannastark above!! Totally unacceptable, questionable, and unethical behavior! How could they raise the hopes of these kids so only to dash them in this cruel fashion???
I did accept CMC! I am excited. To be honest, I just have been afraid of CMC because of the anti-laid-back vibe I got from everyone and the fear of being isolated because I am a minority. @Corinthian
Good luck, @lyannastark! You’re a Stark by name and a Targaryen by looks, have no fear; you shall rule CMC!!
still haven’t received an email
nevermind rejected going to pitzer though
@TheReds hahaha you rock
@Bpadova we will be in the claremont consortium at least!
Son got the rejection letter last night too. Will be attending Brandeis…
@TheReds very sorry for the disappointing result with the WL. Just wanted to point out that yield management is tricky for a small LAC like Pomona, and getting it wrong has big repercussions. The Class of 2018 was over-enrolled due to an unexpected jump in yield. They were targeting a class of 400 and got 450 acceptances. My D is Class of 2019 and the large size of the rising junior class has impacted her class and will continue to do so until D is a senior and finally “free” of the oversize class ahead of her. Having an over-enrolled class negatively impacts class selection, class size and housing, especially for the class that’s right behind the oversize class. My D had a good room draw number but still has “deferred” housing for sophomore year which means she doesn’t know where she’s going to live or whether or not she’ll have a roommate, and probably won’t find out until August. After the Class of 2018 outcome, Pomona’s acceptance rate went down even further. It’s hard for those on the WL for a few weeks, but better for Pomona (including everyone in the Class of 2020) to err on the side of going to the WL for a few weeks to get the class size right.
Thanks for that info, @Corinthian! Appreciate it.
I totally understand and sort of/kind of sympathize with Pomona’s “problems” about enrolment size. My biggest beef is about how they handled it. Why couldn’t they have waited till they were absolutely certain about “whatever” before they made those calls to us to let us know that they are “excited to offer a spot on P’20”? They basically resurrected those lost hopes only to turn around and dash them?? It’s just not right!!!
@lyannastark I heard the anthenaeum “rocks” and hoping my son finds his way to CMC campus for that.

@TheReds totally agree with you . I thought they only made those calls after they know their yield and if they are prepared to make offers. I can imagine how terrible it feels but do hope you start loving the school you put the May 1 deposit at. After going through the process now twice with my kids . I know many things about the admission process including it doesn’t always seem fair and there is no one right school . Not getting accepted to a school is not an indication of how you will do in life .
Thank you, @momof2eagles.
My kid felt a little disappointed that Pomona and Stanford didn’t accept, but was more than thrilled about the accepted ones, including multiple Ivy League schools but declined the big names. Totally put the rejections from Pomona and Stanford behind, loves the school currently committed to, was very excited and so looking forward to starting there! And then the call came and was jumping with joy because P had been the #1 choice. For two weeks, was walking on clouds and then this happened! The utter disappointment of the rejection this time around was much more amplified and I really can’t say how much anguish this has caused!!!
Well, this too shall pass!
Time to move on again and start doling out love by the loads to the one that accepted in RD with a generous financial package to boot!
And, most certainly, being left at the altar is not going to define us.
MY HEART STILL HURTS
