Pomona Student Body

hey kosuke what do you mean by an ivy inferiority complex? like people at pomona look down on the ivies/think they are better? i wouldnt have expected that there tho.

I think he means that the P students have an inferiority complex since they are not attending ivies, they think ivies are superior. I am surprised to hear this complex exists on campus.

god i hope that's not true, mommamia. it's bad enough to hear the constant whining that pomona isn't better known, but to also hear that pomona isn't as prestigious as ivies, whether or not it's true, would be really annoying.

There are a few people at Pomona who are prestige-obsessed, and that's where the Ivy inferiority complex comes from. MOST people, however, are chill about it.

my S is turning down an ivy to attend pomona. obsessing about ivies is a total waste of time. there's so much more to college than the name. each individual has to find what's right for him/her. you make your own opportunities in life. the name of the college that you attend will not matter in the long run. focus on improving yourself and you will do well in life. pomona will offer you all that you need to succeed... the rest is up to you!

this makes me relieved :) im glad pomona isnt ivy obsessed!

I'm a current student, and I really don't think Pomona has an ivy-inferiority complex. No one here really compares ourselves to Ivy-League schools or wish they were going there. The only thing I can think of as an exception is the sarcastic "Harvard: the Pomona College of the East" t-shirts that are just made out of fun.

i agree. at the begining of freshman year there were definately some students talking about where they got into college and where they didn't, and maybe at that point there was a little ivy envy, but by a few weeks into the semester most people had gotten over it.

The info goes to the donors so I would personalize it. My S wrote them a thank you letter and told them about hemself and how he appreciated the opportunity they were giving him.If you can make your essay into a personal letter to them it could work.

i was wondering if someone could read mine before i send it off later today. i cant believe i caught a cold in the middle of april! today willb= be the first day of school ill be missing this year :(. but i guess not skipping a single day so far makes up for it.

kosuke, don't sweat the statement. it will not affect your award. it should just be a simple, straightforward statement about yourself, your interests and activities. i think the school will appreciate a candid approach - don't overthink it! it's time to relax and have some fun!

i guess so, thanks. i need to send it out today, so i guess ill just have to hope its good enough.w00t.
