I am having a huge problem deciding between these schools. I didn’t fall in love with Duke but I didn’t get to see much of it. I will be going to spring weekend so I will get a chance to see Pomona. I want to major in engineering.
If engineering is your true passion, I’d go to Duke. Pomona doesn’t have an engineering department or major, and the 3/2’s are complicated.
My D graduated from Pomona in 2014, my S is a junior at Duke. These two schools are very different in terms of fit. My D, who got into Duke also, would have been very unhappy at Duke, my S who visited Pomona when his sister was a freshman was totally turned off to Pomona. Needless to say, my kids have totally different personalities and I believe you should go to the school with the best fit. PM me if you want more information. Now that my D has graduated I can tell you that Pomona is awesome, filled with brilliant people who do great things. All of her peers seemed to find jobs, fellowships or are studying in the BEST graduate schools in the country. I have become a believer in a liberal arts education!
