My two cents on Santa Clara v. Pomona (from a previous post, but relevant still):

I have three NMF nieces. One is at Santa Clara, one is at CMK and one at Pomona. The niece at Santa Clara is by far the happiest of the three with her choice. Pomona is an amazing incredible school, but, for my niece it can seem awfully quiet, and my other niece says CMK students drink WAY too much (that’s her report, don’t get mad at me) but the niece at Santa Clara loves everything about the school and seems to be growing in all areas of her life.

I also have a nephew at UCB who loves his science courses, and he likes the school overall, he just doesn't "rave" about it, but...hey, he's a guy! It's hard to ignore the quality and price of the UC schools!

Update to this post:

All students remain at their schools, but only SCU kid is "happy" with her choice, her friends, her teachers etc. Other kids all talk about transferring.

Look for the right school, not the "best" school. Truthfully, the entire ratings game causes such shallow perspectives when looking at schools.
