Pomona

I was just wondering... how HARD is it exactly to get into Pomona College? I've seen people say that a poster has NO chance there when their stats look decent.

So, in comparison to other schools or with a list of minimums (test scores, GPA, etc.), can someone tell me how hard it is? Thanks.

Well, let me put it this way.

I have a friend whom I went to school with. She was the Valedictorian of her class, 4.2 GPA, and 1200something SAT. She got in.

So, there is almost always a chance.

Thanks but... do you think that there were other factors that helped her get in?

I have pretty good ECs, a couple varsity sports with a lot of awards, class officer, club officer, volunteering, and other stuff. My test scores are ACT - 34 and SAT - 1440 but my GPA is at a 3.75 unweighted.

Do you think I have a chance?

"Thanks but... do you think that there were other factors that helped her get in?"

Well, her brother also went there and her Mom works for the State Department, and she is White/Hispanic. But thats about it...

You have a good chance I think, good but not great. Pomona is rated 13th most selective by princeton review, more selective than Amherst, Dartmouth, and UC Berkeley. So it's one of the toughest to get into anywhere. I'm ED at Pomona so I wish us both luck.

Thank you everyone.

zoso17 - Yeah, really. Good luck with everything.

Ivyseeker - I actually looked into Occidental because I got a letter from them about basketball but when it didn't look all that good on paper. Maybe it's worth a second look? From what I saw, average SAT scores were in the 1200s so I figured it was just another private school. But I'll take your word for it and look into it. Thank you.

Pomona is pretty tough. A friend of mine last year in the top 5% of his class with a 1490 and lots of sports and leadership got rejected.

Okay, that doesn't look good for me. Shoot. haha
