Poor GPA/Good Work Experience

GPA: 2.93 Major: Engineering; from Purdue

I have 10 years of work experience and currently manage a manufacturing division with 100+ employees including 5 engineers and 100+ operators. It's I started as an entry level engineer and worked my way up to a senior management spot over the years. Unfortunately, my profession is in manufacturing engineering, so my background is not like the typical MBA Wall Street finance whiz.

What are my chances to get admitted to a strong program? I am assuming I would need GMAT scores in the range of 700-720 to even be considered, but can my work experience as an engineering manager compensate for lackluster grades as an undergraduate? Also, what would be a good GMAT score to make me competitive?

Advice as well as where I can get additional resources would be most welcome.

Best Regards and many thanks

p.s. I posted this item in the general forum and it was suggested I try here as well

You sound like a perfect candidate for an executive MBA program. Have you considered that? Why are you looking to return for your MBA? What types of jobs would you be interested in (or would u be returning to your job)? What would you consider a "strong" program?

Thanks for replying.

I am interested in a career change. Right now I focus heavily on industrial and manufacturing related items. I would like to move to a more higher level operations management while acquiring a strong background in finance.

Executive MBAs are possible, but I would prefer to study full time and focus exclusively on my studies.

As far as a "strong program" is concerned, I would like to look at top 20 schools. My current compensation level is higher than what I would make graduating at almost all universities, so I am thinking about the next 10-15 years after I graduate.

Thanks
