Hi,
So I'm a junior at Harvard College. I had a really rough semester. I got 2 C-, 1 C, 1B-, and 1B averaging about a 2.0. My overall average is still around a 3.0 though, maybe slightly below it. I just changed my major (mechanical engineering) and so i'm hurrying to finish the requirements, but it's taking a hit on my GPA. I was wondering how much this could affect my grad school chances and my chances of getting a job.

Why on earth were you taking five classes, especially as an engineering major? Did you talk to an adviser before doing this?

I admit, I feel your pain; I took five classes one semester, and it nearly killed me. But while I don’t think those Cs will do you any favors, especially if they were in classes for your major, I also am not sure that this is the best place to get the answers you seek. Can anyone in your department help you? Is there a resident tutor you trust to give you solid advice?

Go speak to the undergraduate advisor in mechanical engineering. Actually with those grades I would wager that you will be hearing from him or her soon in any case. I agree that taking 5 courses should only be attempted by someone who has thought things out well and has consulted the appropriate advisors for their opinion/approvals (if needed), for you in terms of your GPA and your concentration (btw, if u ARE a Harvard student why did you write “major” not “concentration”–so I am a bit suspicious about trolling here…).
