As advice I've gotten from both Dave Clemmons, Mary Anna Dennard and my voice coach, I need a pop song. That is such a broad playing field however, you can't do something mainstream because the judges are then very bored with you like you don't know what you're doing.

My range is mainly Soprano-Alto, mezzo is my strongest suit.

There are so many artists that fit that type, so I'm sure you understand how hard this is. Anyone have success with a pop song at an MT audition that fits that criteria?

My reaction is, Huh? Look online for the audition requirements for each school you’re applying to. Then prepare that.

My son got into a very good MT school by singing Cole Porter and Jerry Herman.

I’m guessing the coaches want you to have a pop song ready just in case they ask for “something else” so you can just burst forth with it. I’d say, that’s the least of your worries at present. Just continue singing along with the radio when you’re in the car, and if you happen to come across one that you love, it can be your “back pocket” audition song.

More and more MT programs are asking for a pop song these days. Professional auditions, too. But recommending specific songs is kinda impossible here since no-one can know your voice or type. And YOU have to love singing it. I suggest you ask the coaches for help. That’s their job and they are very good picking material.
