Pop Up Spam

Well, it was gone all day and now it’s back. :((

It’ still happening. Is anyone working on this, @CCadmin_Sorin ?

Cool. I’m now getting the same virus pop up on other sites now.

Anyone know how to fix this since we’re getting radio silence?

@romanigypsyeyes

Me too…amazon pop up is all over the place. And by accident…I clicked YES…well the whole pop up disappeared! God knows what I did!

@thumper1 go look and see if any new apps have been installed on your device ASAP.

Nope…no new apps!

Having same thing over last 3 weeks. It has severely curtailed my time on this site. They are losing customers by not finding a fix.

It’s disappointing that @CCadmin_Sorin has been on and yet has not commented on this. I no longer go on here on mobile because it’s not worth infecting my phone.

I had to clear all my data to get it to stop. This site isn’t worth that hassle again.

What data did you have to clear? I thought it was pretty hard to “infect” a phone with malware or the like. According to Apple, the way to clear is to put the phone in airplane mode, go to settings>safari and select “clear history and website data”. Then close safari and turn off airplane mode. I haven’t tried it yet, but if the “@&’!? Pop ups start again, I will.

@jym626

I had to clear the website data which deleted all of my saved info like logins and whatnot. Clearing the cache wasn’t enough :frowning:

But I’m reading it’s not malware or a virus, just obnoxious adware. I got it again the other day, it’s always when CC is open on some tab.

This may sound like gobbledygook, but it combines different advice I found.
I cleared cache and did this, on a chrome page via the dots at top right: settings, site settings, storage, then clear all. You can clear individual apps, too, and history.

Can also go to apps on the home screen, settings, apps, app mgr, then do a force stop on chrome. I don’t understand it all. Force stop doesn’t block chrome.

At your own risk. I’m on android.

And that’s like offering you chicken soup. Maybe it works, maybe not.

Now my pita is how often, when I’m on CC, the “You need Flash” notice shows. Again, that seems to point to some ad on CC. What else would need Flash?

Btw, I’ve had Kaspersky and Malwarebytes running and nothing suspicious found.

I still get it daily on CC. Sometimes frequent, sometimes not, but definitely everyday. So no one responds, I’ve given up.

It was when it popped up when I had no CC tabs open (and was on a completely different site) AFTER I cleared the cache that I decided no more mobile CC. I had to delete all the data. I haven’t had any issues since but I’m not chancing it.

Guys, we are diligently working with our Ad Networks to try to address this problem. This is an issue that is hitting all major websites, not just College Confidential. We have already implemented changes where possible, but these bad ad creators have become proficient in getting their bad ads through all of the normal filtering functions.

These ads are primarily impacting mobile users. Although the interface is not the same, a possible solution is to access the Full Site by entering at collegeconfidential.com and then accessing the forums from the top tab on the site. This essentially puts you into our desktop version which is not experiencing the same problems.

We apologize for the frustration this is causing and we will continue to work on solving the problem.

I access the website as Sorin suggested, and I don’t have any problem with pop up spam.

On iOS (iPad works well, iPhone is a bit small), another way to access the full site is to press and hold the semi-circular arrow at the top right until the button “Request Desktop Site” pops up at the bottom; tap it. You’ll usually then see the message “Something has gone wrong.” Now at the lower left tap “<” and you’ll be at the full site.

@CCadmin_Sorin Back today bigly. Took me multiple tries to get here to post a message. On an iPhone6, still on iOS 10.

Has been a few weeks I have been getting nasty “your phone is infected with a virus” pop-ups when visiting CC from my Android devices. Only way to get rid of it is kill the Chrome App completely and restarting.
I am convinced it is a problem with CC since it only happens to me when browsing this forum.

Bigly, when in full suite, on my android tablet just now In addn to clearing cache, had to force stop chome and delete history a couple of times.

Got the amazon price pop up three times tonight. Ugh.
