popular and not so popular

what are the popular and non-popular majors at penn??

least popular is africana studies

most popular is econ

second least popular: feline studies

it’s in the gender studies department and deals with kittens, cats, and other felines. mostly kittens.

hows the international relations major?

pretttty popular

it’s realllly good. search for ilovebagels’ spiel on it.

Yup, it’s popular and pretty good (although I heard the poli sci classes that comes with it are pretty crowded). I would have gone into that major if I picked Penn :)

if i apply with a major and decide that that’s not really what i want to study, will i have to be stuck with that major for my first year or would i be able to switch it?

You are bound by the School you apply to (Wharton, CAS, SEAS, Nursing), but not by the major you put on your application. I don’t think you are even permitted to declare a major until the end of your first year, and you are not required to have one until the end of your second year.

The expectation is that most students change their minds about what they are going to major in during their college career, and certainly between the time they apply and their junior year in college. If they went by the majors high school seniors pick, there would probably be only 10-12 departments, not 40.

hah i’m glad penn kids are practical and level-headed enough to not be majoring in siamese cats

edit: … not that there’s anything wrong with that …

ohh okay. i just didnt want to have down a major on my application and for some reason change my mind, and not be able to… thanks!

how popular is the communication major? Have you heard good things about it?

comm’s pretty popular

we have one of the best communications programs in the country

also, is it true its easier to get in with some majors than others? my friend got into penn two years ago and told me about one of her friends that wanted to major in something but it was easier to get in with that major?? is that true?
