Popular classes/professors

I am just curious if anyone knows of any particularly popular or recommended classes or professors. I'm a history major transferring in this next semester, but I'm looking to take a pretty wide range of classes.

If you’re into this kind of thing, I took a sex & evolution class my first semester and loved it, and the professor - Christine Reiber. I think she’s relatively popular with those that take a course with her (I’m dying to take another with her - darwinian medicine this spring hopefully).

Otherwise, if you’re into psychology, Merriwether was a really excellent professor who I would recommend.

As far as history classes go, I couldn’t direct you there, being a science major history is not my thing.

Also - Check ratemyprofessor.com for some reviews, that tends to help.

Reiber was good? I didn’t take her darwinian medicine class, because a few people told me she wasn’t that great…and her ratings weren’t either. I’ll have to remember that next spring.

Also, avoid Sommerville’s hist 103 class…I took it freshman year 1st semester, I did well but it was a lot of work.

I took her Darwinian Medicine class before I transferred. Dr. Reiber’s class was very interesting. I also found her to be one of the most fair professors I have had[she allows you to ask her questions during exams regarding vocabulary that you might not understand and answers them unless they are specific to the questions answer]. I learned not to use the ratings after they were off for her and Dr. Martin[who I had for Soci100, another one I would recommend].

I personally found her to be a very fair professor, with an interesting course, and I liked her as a person as well.

And yeah, I try to take ratemyprofessor’s reviews with a grain of salt. Sometimes it’s a bunch of bitter students who didn’t do well and are basing it more on the course itself than the professor… if that makes any sense at all.

My roommate had very good things to say about ‘TV in American Culture’ and the professor Ryan Vaughan. I haven’t taken the class so I can’t agree or disagree, but, overall, she was very pleased with the class.

Personally, the best professor I’ve had so far is Erik Grayson. He’s very funny, encouraging, and my writing certainly improved a lot when I took his class. I’d definitely recommend him.
