The list of popular tags is getting longer, and longer and longer. Most are names of specific colleges.
Is there any way you can create an “x” on these so users can choose to delete the tags they have zero interest in seeing? If this list gets much longer, it will be taking up most of one side of the page, which is ridiculous.
I’m still not sure I see any value in these tags anyway. If someone is really interested in something, they can bookmark it for themselves.
But a list of hundreds of random schools isn’t doing much for the site. So I’m looking into removing the box.
That leaves the problem of finding tags since the “Popular Tags” box appears to be the only way to discover the list. I think that’s not hugely important at the moment. I expect most traffic to the tags page will come from posts that have the tag. Again, the main point is for people who are interested in specific schools (perhaps because they are applying there) to see other posts relevant to their interests. The list of tags is unlikely to be interesting to most people.
Why not just improve the search function? If someone searches for Pitzer, they have to scroll past several pages of Pitzer waitlist and Pitzer transfer posts. Change search so that one Pitzer waitlist thread shows up instead of all of the individual posts.
