popularity of PE classes at Cal

I was planning on signing up for one during phase II, but all the ones that seemed interesting were taken. Do most of them, except ones like tenis and basketball, go by reallly fast? I wanted to take begginning jazz. Do you know how low-level this class would be? would it be really really basic and walk you through the steps slowly?

I signed up for classes at this studio near my house, but even in the very beginning classes, I felt the professors taught at a much higher level and pretty much expected us to catch up/ follow along. or they would show a step once really fast and have us do it right away. I would rather be walked through steps slowly numerous times...i don't know, maybe i'm just really slow at learning these things. would joining a dance club be a better idea? what i hate the most is that i paid so much effing money for those classes. so expensiveeee and totally did not get my money's worth. anyhow, sorry for rambling , haha

Jazz is not part of PE curriculum, just to be clear lol.

If you want things taken to be slow, join the Cal Jazz Band. Hopefully you’ve seen their flyer during your CalSO lunch at Memorial Glade right next Cal Marching Band. They have it in several intermediate/advanced level groups so you will definitely find your spot. Music 150E is the Jazz Performance class, but since it is a credit course and you get your grade, they will certainly expect you to know jazz inside and out. Any music course that has 150 or higher course number is reserved for music majors so I expect to be hard-core. (The highest music course I’ve taken was 142, but even that course had pretty competitive audition process, etc.)

Btw, there is another upper-division Music class that teaches the history of jazz (Music 131A?), but not offered this semester. Take it if you are interested later.

I think the OP means beginner’s jazz dance.

oh yeah, sorry for the confusion. I meant jazz dance.
