So, I'm applying to 5 different boarding schools for next year and I had a question. A lot of schools, especially high schools have popular groups. Or groups of students who are maybe more socially inclined than others.

Do boarding schools like (Deerfield, Exeter, Hotchkiss, Andover, and Choate) have a lot of "popular" people?

Are they really cliquey?

I do not currently attend a BS but when I visited DA, Exeter, Andover everyone was extremely nice. The students looked really happy to be at their schools. They smiled and waved and asked me how I was and it didn’t make me feel as though there was any type of malicious intent to people who are or are not quote-on-quote “popular”.

They seemed like places were students were focused on their education as well as having a good time and making friends.

Hope that helped.

Hi Koalabears! I attend Phillips Academy, Andover and would actually have to kind of disagree with bksvet310. At andover, everyone has their main group of friends that they hang out with. It is almost like a clique, except everyone does hang out with everyone (except for the people who just annoy the heck out of everyone). While you will have your circle of friends, you aren’t inclined to only hang out with them. As for other schools, i have no clue.

Hope this helps!
