As I read some of the great qualifications some of these student resumes possess, I have also started to realize how they all read similarly, even from the small sample set here on this web site - so you can only imagine what happens when 30,000 of these applications are in play.

Based on reviewing your numbers, my guess is that your AP Euro course was something you took as a sophomore with AP US as a junior - AP Euro as a sophomore course is very tough (our school district does the same thing) and getting a 3 there is strong. You have leadership skills and entrepreneurialism expressed in your sports and club “founding member” status. You will want to describe the DIFFERENCE that these clubs made in the community or world.

Now, the bad news : your ACT score is below the cut as I understand it for Boston College. You have not shared any SAT scores to offer another perspective, but you might need to have higher board scores.

Students have been admitted with these qualifications, but better have not made the cut also. My guess right now is 60% acceptance/40% waitlist. You are one of those people that will need to really bolster their case through the essays. Good luck!

Thanks scott! Yeah, I might retake the ACT (SAT just isn’t my thing, so I didn’t even bother with those scores), a 29 is actually in their mid-50% range. I should hear back from a few other schools before BC’s deadline, so that will determine whether or not I retake it. But I’m hoping they will realize that it was only my sci. score that brought me down.

As far as the essay is concerned, I tied in how an outreach program I participated in inspired me to travel to an orphanage in MX, delivering supplies, and then how that taught me about understanding cultural benevolence, etc., which aided me in better understanding ethnic polarizations in my own town (illegal immigration, etc.). It sounds kinda complicated, but I think it’s very clear in my essay.

As far as AP Euro is concerned, you are correct. It is offered our sophomore year, and I got an A in the class but a 3 on the test (I should have done better, except I wrote about events that took place in the wrong time period for one of the prompts).

Thanks for all your advice, I really appreciate it!

anyone else???

I think you stand a solid chance of being admitted. A very well rounded applicant with a lot of things going on. And, of course, improve the ACT by a few more points, a 32 would make you an extremely likely admit.

bummmpp! anyone else? or are you all too busy lookin at the latest BCS rankings lol?
