So today I got a letter from Rochester dated March 18. It talked about "Rochester Portable Research Grants" of $3000 that can be used for research or a learning experience. Did anyone else get this letter, it said that they invited 10% of accepted students to apply. This seems like something I would be interested but the application deadline is April 3 and I have not even heard back from all my other schools. Should I just fill out the application anyway even if I might not go to Rochester. Also it says people recieving the award with be notified on April 7 (only 4 days after the deadline) so do they even read the application or does everyone who submit a decent application get a research grant. In general, does anyone have experience with this program and think its worthwhile? Thanks for any advice.

Yea I got this too. I don't think I'm gonna fill it out though cuz I'm not really considering UR anymore. Anyone have more info?

They just changed their official response date to April 1st, so apparently you are among the select few that they chose to treat decently. I guess the rest of the applicants are chopped liver.

My son also received that letter today and we would like to know more about it too, because we are in the same situation as the OP. My son doesn't know yet if he is going to UR because he still has 3 more schools to hear from (supposedly on March 31 or April 1 for each of them) so he's not real gung-ho to spend part of his spring break this week filling out another application -- especially since it's a waste of time if he ultimately decides to go somewhere else.

Does anyone have some actual experience with these grants?

Ahhh darnit, I started the same thread. I didn't realize there was one here already...
Anyway I received the application today as well. It sure sounds very interesting but I have several more schools to hear from.

I was chosen as an actual recipient of the grant last week... Good thing I'm going to Rochester :)

D was awarded one also. She faxed her application form in April 3rd and got an email on April 7th informing she had been given the grant.
