Portal change/financial aid

No, a portal change should not signify any kind of admission or rejection. I’ve heard other colleges such as NYU have a correlation between portal changes and decisions, but BU shouldn’t.

As of yet we’ve (we being the CCers that commonly post in the BU forum) yet to reacha conclusion on whether or not the change in your portal means anything as to whether or not you’ll be accepted. All we’ve determined is that the change did men something for ED candidates, but it was a different change and there’s no evidence that this change leans one way or the other. The only sure way to know will be afterwards, but at that point it matters very little.

Sorry I couldn’t offer anything more concrete.

Sorry if this post isn’t relevant to the thread but how great of an impact does your first semester senior grades play in your admissions? I’m hoping that my first semester senior grades will make some positive impact in my admission.

And I’m also quite confused with the acceptance rate. BU’s acceptance rate is roughly 45-46% (maybe even lower this year) but I read somewhere that last year they only accepted about 4000 incoming freshmens? Isn’t that a percentage far less than 45% assuming that 45,000 students applied?

Thanks!

Around 4000 people ENROLLED to BU last year. But they accepted around 20,000 people, which is about 46% of the applicants.

For those who used FAFSA, if you updated it, does your portal indicate that they have received it? I know other schools have received our updated FAFSA, but BU still shows my original application date of January and I submitted an updated (used the IRS Retrieval Tool) FAFSA around 3/1.

I have the change as well, and I did not apply for financial aid. Mine appears as follows:
2013/2014 Academic Year

We have no record of any documents submitted in support of a financial aid application for you.

Please allow up to 4 weeks after submission for the FAFSA and PROFILE to be received. Our deadline applies to the date these forms are received by the processor. Please allow 10 days for any documents submitted directly to Boston University.

If you would like additional information or have specific questions about financial aid, we recommend that you visit the Financial Assistance Home Page or e-mail us.

I’m about 85% sure the portal changes are relevant and mean you’re in.

For those whose portals did not change, what exactly does it say?

wait so if my portal changed to not include the school i applied to and my financial aid page says "2013/2014 Academic Year

Your application is complete. A decision is pending. You will be notified by mail as soon as a decision is made."

is that good or bad? i’m really worried because i LOVE BU but i got a C in the second semester of my AP bio class and i applied as a bio major  i was accepted by other schools, though none of them as good as BU, so hopefully i’ll get in. does being out of state help at all? i’m from california
