Portfolio - Dramatic Essay?

I wrote an essay a year back and published it in my school’s literary journal. It seems perfect for the portfolio dramatic essay, but I’m wondering if it could look bad if the adcoms became aware that this piece was written earlier.

I called NYU and asked about this, and the person I talked with said “they won’t check.” However, my one professor makes reference to the essay in his letter of recommendation, so I’m wondering if this could look bad. But as far as I know, two separate teams review the NYU common application and the Tisch portfolio, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

What do you guys think? Should I save myself the stress and use the piece I already wrote?

Thanks.

Write something new…D had to do 10 supplemental essays. Once she got started she found they came easy and were actually fun for her. And, especially if a teacher refers to the one you speak of I would not use it. Taking the easy way out is, well, easy!! But, I bet you knew that ;-)

It’s just a shame because the essay is practically made for this prompt. I would be better off focusing my attentions on refining my other essays and my artistic samples. (The deadline is in two weeks.)
