hey, this is my first post ever on this forum, so im sorry if its in the wrong section.
i was curious if a very strong portfolio could possibly "outweigh" a lower-than-normal GPA or SAT score? I'm really strong in english, but get C+'s and B-'s in my math class. i know architecture involves quite a bit of math. im a sophmore in 4 honors courses, including math. im taking a 6 week summer course at RISD so that should definatly build my portfolio more.

sorry if this is in the wrong section again, thanks for any help

edit: im pretty sure I can get into RISD, i have connections there and have taken courses there in the past. i ask this question assuming i will get 700's on verbal and writing, and probably upper 600's on math. i really like the arch program at Rice. my GPA right now is about a 3.6 in a challenging curriculum, which i know is low for rice.

i think it depends on the school, and you can tell by the requirements: RISD puts quite a lot more emphasis on the PF as it has many specific requirements regarding which pieces you need (more than all other schools i've seen). If you think your pf will reflect you as an arch applicant better than your test scores and GPA, you can try cooper union and cornell...maybe some other art/design schools. Many prestigious arch schools don't even require a portfolio though.

do advanced search, post by user: jimminy, keywords: architecture portfolio, and you will find a link to a flickr pf that was accepted last year to rice and cornell and other schools that i don't remember. courtesy of jimminy, who is happy at rice right now.
