Hi everyone, I am a current HS senior planning on majoring in photography. I will be going to a regional portfolio day in about 2 weeks, and I am wondering what the best way to present my portfolio is. I had originally thought about getting an 11x14 binder and mounting my prints on thick black paper. Can anyone comment on this, or give other suggestions for how to present my images? Also, I have images in many different formats/aspect ratios (35mm, 6x6, 6x7), so would it be better to mount some images sideways, or to just get a square binder and leave more empty space?

My advice is to stay away from black mounting paper, and ideally, print your photos in a large format and present them in a clam shell box. Show your best work, and include a few observational drawings if you have them and you are satisfied with the quality. Yes, your photos will get fingerprints on them, but the reviewers won’t be looking through plastic to appreciate your work. Also, listen carefully to what they say and when you submit your work digitally with your application, chances are good that they will notice if you followed their suggestions. Lastly, go on the websites of the schools in which you are interested. Almost all have a page on portfolio tips. Good luck!
