Portuguese Apllicants "Offcial thread"

I still got a 26 on the speaking. 30 listening, 29 writing and reading.
I had the Barron’s and the Princeton Review for both Math2 and Physics. For the SAT i ordered the baron’s 2400, the barron’s and the blue book.

I think listening and writing were my best, followed by reading and then speaking. For the SAT I had the college board and Princeton review. Btw how were the SAT results from your classmates?

They did the SAT on december, no results yet. Two of them already did the SAT subject tests. One got 800math2, 760physics, the other 740math2, 790physics

All of you want physics as a major? MIT or harvard?

One is applying to Yale, Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell and Dartmouth, he wants Physics. One of the others is only applying to Yale, Princeton, MIT and Harvard, he wants aerospace engineering. The last one if applying to Upenn, Boston Uni, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Northwestern, Dartmouth and some more. Oh, and he wants management

well I know that harvard doesn´t offer aerospace engineering as a major… neither management. yale and princeton don´t offer management to. Boston U doesn´t offer financial aid to international. You can see those inforamtions on college board.

Those aren’t their intended majors, they’re their interests :stuck_out_tongue: And the one applying to Boston U has the means to support the costs. Lucky him :)

bump bump…

Portuguese applicant here! I’m from Oporto, but I did my SAT’s in Berlin, since one of my family’s closest friends worked at Stanford and at a New England prep school and he guided me with study tips and application tips, so I “emigrated” during the summer to Berlin for some guidance.

I have the German Abitur, my GPA is of 1.0 (from 0,6666 to 6, although 1 is given maximum credit).

SAT scores: 790 Writing - 800 Reading - 760 Maths
SAT Subject scores: World History 800 - US History 800
TOEFL:119

I’m applying to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Georgetown, UChicago, Northwestern.

I’m intending to focus on philosophy and international studies, but I still haven’t decided if I’m going to study in the US, because many people have advised me to stay in Portugal, go through law school at one of the Catholic Schools (I’ll probably stay in Oporto) and then try to apply to a Master’s and a future PhD…financial aid is definitely going to be one of the factors involving my future choice…

Those are some damn nice scores
I have also been advised to stay in Portugal for now, but I really want to go to the US…

Thanks! :)

I’m still considering the possibility of staying for Law School here in Portugal. My dream career would be to work as a diplomat or as a “regular worker” at the UN or the EU. I don’t see myself going through grad school in the U.S., since I’m not American, it’s quite pointless, but the entrepeneurial spirit and the intelectual level of America’s colleges is what attracts me the most.

Do you know anyone else who is applying to the states?

Well, I didn’t get to have much contact with other Portuguese students, since I’ve done a lot of work in Germany, but from all the people I know, there aren’t any other Portuguese applicants.

Well, but speaking in a more strict sense, I don’t know how the admissions office will see me. I’ll probably be in some other group, because, and I take this from what I’ve read here, you’re typical Portuguese students and I’m a Portuguese citizen, but I don’t have any Portuguese diploma. What I’m trying to say is, I don’t know if I’ll be compared to other Pt students, to German students or both.

I definitely hope to meet you on the other side of the pond! One of the primary concerns of my parents is that there aren’t any Portuguese undergrads, that can help me out  and the earthquake possibility in CA (Stanford, specifically) ahaha

Last year 2 undergraduate and 7 graduate students were accepted to MIT, and they’re one of the strictest unis concerning international students. Don’t worry, there will be portuguese students there :P

I saw yesterday that Harvard college does not have any Portuguese student, however it has 11 Portuguese in business school and a few more graduate level too.

So let’s be the first guys there :)

When colleges are not getting applicants from Countries they want them from the go out and recruit them. Theyll often start at the international schools and other top schools in the cOuntry. The don’t sit around hoping an applicAnt suddenly appers from outer Mongolia. They determine the composition they want and make the effort to achieve it.
