Soooo I’ve been honored to be one of a few select nominees from my school to compete for the Posse scholarship in the Washington, DC area. I recognize it’s deathly competitive (50 spots for 1600 nominees), so if I get eliminated at any point, I have a list of schools that I’m applying to through the common app? My question is: how would being a Posse nominee help me when applying to these schools? If I get eliminated in Round 1 or 2, would I still have a good chance at getting into any of the five schools Posse DC offers? It’d be really nice to get clarification on this.
For the most part it will have no bearing on your chances to get into other schools if you are eliminated in the early round.i had one student who got eliminated at the very end and was admitted to the school she was hoping to be matched to during the RD round (the financial aid package was not as good, but she went and is now a rising senior)
So you’re saying I’d have to get to at least the second round of the dynamic assessment process, or even round 3 if possible?
No, the overwhelming majority of students who get nominated for Posse do not make the cut. In the over 10 years that i have been nominating students, this is the only unmatched student who was accepted to her first choice posse school
@sybbie719 Can you share any insight into what the Posse process is like. My daughter is nominated this year and I am trying to help her prepare.
@20Mom19
the process has 3 interview rounds, the first round in a laid-back dynamic assessment where students get to do activities as instructed and work with groups of other competitors they randomly join. Confidence is key, your daughter shouldn’t be shy. One should do their best in this first round process, and not be a coward. Being ready for unexpected surprises is one thing so not being afraid no matter what comes up.
[the process main point is to see if students can perform and thrive in unfamiliar, and unexpected environments and situations. ] [they see how students adjust to a completely new setting using the dynamic assesment]
The group activities require one to be proactive and interactive with other group members. Involvement is key and working with other group mates. Including communication and having the quality of a leader and by that they do not necessarily need to control the setting/ group work but (be the go-to person when someone needs them and) as leadership can be defined in different ways, formally and informally.
One should be themselves and not try to act like what they’re not. Another thing is [DON"T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER COMPETITORS]. so respecting others whenever group activities are taking place and also respect the ridiculousness of the instructions students are given.
I just took the 1st round today and I was constantly reminding myself to not worry about the little mistakes I made (based off of me judging myself) and that I need to be myself completely.
the 2nd and 3rd interviews are more sophisticated but just focus on the 1st one first. prioritize it.
Best of luck to your daughter.
Hello! Did you make it past round 1? What city are you in? Any tips for round 2?
