Posse or Questbridge?

Hi everyone, I recently been informed that I am a finalist for posse, and I was matched with Cornell University. However, I am also a Questbridge finalist that did not rank any colleges for the national college match.

Which one do I choose?

Posse only covers tuition, and I will have to apply for financial aid… but questbridge provides a full ride. Is it possible to do both posse and questbridge and pick whichever offer I like best?

Cornell will give your comprehensive aid if you are low income. A student I worked with last year had everything covered, no loans, just a reasonable work study award. So you have a sure thing. If you like Cornell I would take it. You have a cohort with Posse, right? When you apply RD with Questbridge you are like any applicant, but you have an extra award as a finalist to list, plus the partner schools will get a copy of your QB application in addition to any common app materials the partners offer. However there is no guarantee of acceptance to any of the partners or non partners you apply to.

Oh, a big CONGRATS!

Thanks brownparent!

Congrats on making it to the finalist round. While you are a Posse finalist, you haven’t actually won the scholarship yet, so it is not a sure thing. IIRC, you do not find out if you are receiving the actual scholarship until sometime in december.

While Posse is a full tuition scholarship (you must apply for financial aid to cover room board, books and any misc. expenses). you can run your numbers through the net price calculator to see what you will have to pay.

If you are a Posse scholarship winner, you will have to attend Cornell. SInce you are applying RD to questbridge, should you not get the scholarship, then you will still have some fires in the iron and a chance for a scholarship.

Right now you have no guarantee that you will be picked up by either one.

^^oops I didn’t realize from the post it is premature. I’m not aware of the Posse timeline. And @sybbie719 Questbridge RD is just a regular financial aid package from whichever colleges you choose to apply to.

Posse picks about 25 finalist per school to get a final Posse at somewhere between 10/12 students. The next round they meet again with Posse and the school. They get the final decision around the time everyone else is getting ED decisions. Last year I had a kid who made it to the finalist round and was not picked up as part of the Posse but did get picked up during RD. Needless to say her financial aid package was a little less, but thankfully the family was still able to pull it off.

While Op would be applying RD to Questbridge, s/he would still stand a chance of getting a good financial aid package. However II It would be in OP’s best interest to run their numbers through the NPC at all of the schools that they are considering including cornell to make sure that they are financially feasible.

Hey, I’m a Posse finalist also for Cornell!

I read that part. However what I am staying is that. not all finalst actually get the posse Scholarship. Unless you have an acceptance letter from Cotnall in hand, congratulating you on being a recipient of a posse scholatship, then right now you have nothing. If you did then it would be a non issue because you would be committed to attend Cornell
