UCLA: Reach (out of state)

yeah i figured, just curious, what about the other UC schools? like Santa Barbara, USC, San Diego...

Are you interested in both engineering and finance? U Chicago does not have engineering, but does have computer science with a theoretical bent. Have you considered the cost of these schools- most of them are expensive. Can your parents afford it? Rutgers- definitely a good choice. Look at Rensselaer Polytechnic.

UCSB: Safe Match
USC: Slight Reach
San Diego : Slight Reach Out of state

onemom: to be honest, im more into finance than i am into engineering. i think engineering is kind of what my parents want. although im not strongly opposed to majoring in it. and yeah i agree, RU is a good choice especially for engineering. great school, cheap (just..too close to home haha) as far as cost goes, my parents are the hardcore i-want-to-send-my-child-to-crazyexpensive-schools-even-if-it-meant-selling-them-for-money type. but yeah thats also my concern.. but they are always telling me that money's not the issue.

protege: haha i probably wont even be applying to any CA schools, as much as i'd love to. im an east coasterrr, doesnt seem practical to my parents.

Your SAT scores will reeally hurt you at tour reach schools.

GPA and ECs are, of course, great. Just get those SATs around 2100 and you will have very good chances at all your target schools.

hmcxx:

UCSD: Slight Reach (out of state)
UCSB: Safe Match (out of state)

George Washington University in Washington, DC, may be worth looking at. Also, look at Boston University. They are easier to get into than your reaches, and you might like the locations.

talk about the death in your essay. this may be a soft subject for you but this will further personalize your essay. Colleges take into account special circumstance and youve seem to bounce back greatly. they will like that good luck homie.
