Possibility of Acceptance

Hey, I'm new to this forum but I was possibly wondering if I could get some idea of my chances of being accepted by William & Mary. Could anyone give me a good idea of how possible it would be? William & Mary is my top choice and I absolutely love the school. I applied early decision and am extremely anxious for the December decision-making time!

Basic Stats:
Female, White/Non-Hispanic
International Baccalaureate Candidate
Weighted GPA (for Honors and IB courses): 4.89
Active in both French and Latin clubs (taking five years of French and four of Latin)
Approximately 100 hours of community service in numerous activities
Equestrian for eight years, received Junior Rider of the Year award
Tutor in French, Latin, and mathematics
Uncle, sister, and cousin are all alumni or currently enrolled at William & Mary
SAT scores:
Math - 580
Critical Reading - 710
Writing - 750

I know that these are really only statistics and certainly not the only way William & Mary chooses its students, but I would really appreciate it if I could have some sort of inclination as to where I stand. I would add more subjective criteria, but I would like to remain somewhat anonymous. Thank you so much!

Glad to hear W&M is your top choice and you applied ED. We are currently reviewing those applications. We are always excited to see some students designate W&M as their top choice.

It sounds like you’ve got some good credentials with your IB diploma curriculum and good grades (as implied by the 4.8 GPA). We’ll also look closely at the subjective qualities you project (both those you discussed in your posts and those you didn’t) and the breadth and depth of those personal qualities certainly plays a large role in our review process.

Our admission rate for early decision is generally around 50% although it may be slightly lower for out-of-state students (you didn’t say if you were in-state or out-of-state). What can made applying ED advantageous is that the pool is ~1100 applicants as opposed to 12,500 applicants overall. It’s easier to stand out in a pool of 1100 as opposed to the pool of 12,500.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck. You’ll hear from us in early December!

Thank you so much! I am in-state, so reading this reply is extremely helpful. Thank you again!
