Hey guys, I’m in a bit of an unique situatoon here.
This fall I will start as a freshmen in Korea (I’m Korean! South Korean, the non crazy Koreans) and was wondering if it is possible for me to transfer to good schools(ideally, ivy leagues schools). If it is, will I be competiting with domestic transfer students under the same category or is there another quota for international students?
Also will it be easier for me to transfer from a foreign school or domestic school(US)?
Ideally, I want to study hard in my uni and prepare myself for Harvard and other great school since their education level is quite amazing.
Lastly, if I apply for a transfer is every mayjor available? And how would tranfer of mayjor work? For example, if I’m double majoring international studies and engineering, can I just switch to engineering when I transfer?
That is a lot of questions and some hard ones too but I would greatly appreciate your amswers!
Thank you in advance people!
I can only speak for the UCs but way easier from a California community college. Almost all internationals transferring to a UC come from a CA CC. Very very few transfer come straight from their foreign school.
All majors available. Re transferability of int’l coursework, a UC specialist needs to look at it. It’s definitely more problematic than a stateside school. Each case is different.
The UCs only let you in with a single major. From there you can apply for a double major, assuming the second is not selective (impacted). Business and Engineering and Econ are usually impacted, meaning you wouldn’t be able to have both (most likely), although I have heard of exceptions. Int’l studies, I believe, is not impacted, so should be OK.
Transfer admissions at Harvard is even harder than regular admissions. Some years Harvard doesn’t admit any transfers at all. So forget Harvard.
Some other top universities are reasonably transfer friendly. Cornell admits a lot of transfers, but most are from NY community colleges.
It might make more sense for you to complete your undergraduate degree in Korea, and then come to the US for your master’s degree.
hey, thanks for your reply.
impacted means it is just that much work to double major so they do not allow it?
thanls again!
ahh i see. yeah i have wild dreams, but i guess given that i graduated my high/middle school in the states i keep wantimg to come back.
Is there specific reason why Cornell accepts NY region students? I mean if u meet the requirements i guess u r allowed in right not jist bcuz u r from NY?
Thanks!
